An annual exam is a once-a-year visit for a review of general health issues which also normally includes a breast, pap and pelvic exam. Among the items that will be covered are:
If you have specific new problems to discuss with your provider, you should let your provider know this before the exam begins. There will not be enough time to do both an annual exam and to evaluate your new problem(s). You and your provider may have to determine which area to address at this visit and make a subsequent appointment to address the other topic.
Insurance coverage for this annual visit vary widely among carriers. You may want to contact your insurance carrier in advance to find out if the visit will be covered or if it will be an out-of-pocket expense. The timing of the visit can also be critical; some carriers require one year plus one day for this exam to be a covered benefit.
